Hello my name is Tia and I have made up in my mind that I'm going natural. This was a tough descison for me because my stylist which is actually my first cousin thought that this was not a good idea. She told me that most people that go natural is people that has damaged hair and that I had nice healthy hair. So, this kinda discouraged me and delay my progress. So, finally I decided that I'm going natural no matter what, I'm doing this for me because society has painted this picture for so many years of how you hair should look. So, now it's time to get to know a part of me that I never saw since the age of 6. I'm so exicted!!! I'm currently 9 weeks ( transitioning)!!!! I will soon posted pics

Ok Guys this story is quite interesting but crazy so check it out. For the 2008-2009 school year I was a UAPB Golden Girl at my school. I love love love dancing and I had to join the team but I noticed something different from me and the rest of the girls. I STOOD out….why you might ask?...You know why….I was the only one with NAPPY hair. So band camp started for the dance team and I was so excited and ready. A few weeks went by and our dance director receives these calendars that we had taken over the summer to raise money to buy more uniforms for the team so we wouldn’t have to come out of our pockets. So we all look at the calendars and everyone looks pretty good. Theres a BUT to this….I STOOD out……why?...Because I had an afro while everyone else had either straight hair or some type of weave in theirs. My Dance Director came to me personally and told me that people were telling her that my picture was the UGLIEST picture on the calendar and I promise you I was actually THE FINEST on that calendar. If you take a look at my album..the picture with me with the white dress on was the day I took my picture for the calendar and I promise you I was BEAUTIFULL with 2 L’s..lol….back to the story. When I heard that it broke me down all the way. I thought to myself who could say such a thing about me. My picture was not ugly at all and even the photographer said I was beautiful so why would she lie to me like that.
She told me that because she trying to convince me to perm my hair so that I could FIT IN with the others girls which I did not want. So for weeks and weeks they got on to me about my hair being natural. When we would do performances my hair was pressed to the T and you couldn’t even tell I had natural hair when I performed but it continued to be a problem with the Dance Director. One night during practice the dance director and the band director approached me and told me that I was no longer apart of the team because of my hair. Isn’t that something, they tried to put me off the team because I continued to come to practice with my hair in afro style, what was the point of pressing it when she knew my hair wouldn’t puff up because of the previous performances I did. It was so low down and I couldn’t do anything but cry. I then told them I would perm my hair. So for a couple of days I thought about it and asked a couple of people for their advice. Many said do not perm your hair because from the start she knew my hair was natural and didn’t have a problem with it then so what was the problem now, but I loved dancing so much that I went ahead and paid $50 to get a perm, which byt the way they should have paid for, not I. After the perm was put on my head everyone was happy and had nothing else to say to me but I was HURT on the inside, BUT….. guess what I did as soon as I was through dancing……I drove straight to the barber shop and told them to cut ALL OF MY HAIR OFF…..I LOVE BEING NATURAL and I will not allow anyone to keep me from being ME. I am nappy headed again and I LOVE it. I will give up dancing any day to be nappy and happy. I love being Natural!!
HOW DO YOU FIND OUT YOUR CURL PATTERN??????????????
I did my big chop 07/23/2009 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love i so much. My husband doesn't like it but he is very supportive. One thing that is funny to me are the people that just don't get it at all. ...........................................Their reactions are mostly........................................................... *Girl what did you do to your hair! * How long are you going to do this? * Girl you good cause you have that ((good hair)) and i have that ((kinky nigga hair)) i have to keep a perm! * A women suppose to have long straight hair!! * Do you think your hair would be appropriate in the business world when looking for a job?
Overall i have received a lot of love and i have also learned alot about my self. In some way i think that doing this was a right of passage to self: self-confidents, self-supporting,self-interest, self-LOVE. To some people that might be alot for a hair cut.For me it's much more {it's embracing my natural roots..................}
