My Blog

Description of my blog

I'm enjoying my natural after years of relaxing.  My hair is thick and below shoulder length,  and would just like to get all my natural kinks to coil without all the twists and braids to achieve it.  Just learning that constant  continual moisture is the only key.

What is your first memory pertaining to natural hair when you were deciding or decided to go natural?

So here's a little introduction to me: I'm a 23 old year old female living in Brooklyn, NY. I've been through a lot in the past two years. While I've had negative and positive experiences, I've continued on the path to self-actualization. I switched my career path from psychology to social work. My moviation in this field is rooted in my spirituality and commitment to help the Black community. I continuously try to learn about different cultures and demolish all biases that I was taught while living in a Caribbean household. Yet, I feel I'm missing something.

My nationality is mixed and has always made me try to find my own identity. My parents are Belizean, but my mother is half-Spaniard and my father is half-Mexican. During my childhood, this has made confused of how to identify myself. As I got older, I embraced my Blackness within culture, traditions and even romantic relationships. Living in East Flatbush, the biggest Caribbean community in NYC, I began to identify with the black condition. Within social work, I familized myself with hidden systems of oppression.

However, I continued to follow the social standard of what "beauty" is, in the form of straight long hair. I've had relaxed hair for 10-11 years and weaves for 1 year. I want to break through this last obstacle and reclaim my natural hair. I'm not sure where to start. So far, I contacted someone in Brooklyn who specializes in natural Black hair for advice. So wish me luck everyone...

To be natural is to be beautiful

To be natural is to embrace your true self

No offense to people who choose to relaxed but this is how I feel about been natural. I am not new to this game of been natural as a matter of fact I was natural for about 2 years, 2 years ago. I decided to go back to the creamy crack due to my lack of knowledge on how to take care of my God given curls. I was sick and tired of the shredding and not been able to come through my hair. But here I am, back at it again. I wished I had the knowledge that I possesed now when I decided to take my first journey to naturality. But it's all good because I know that everything happens for a reason.

On one fateful day, I am very sure it was a weekend or maybe I didn't have school I was watching various youtubes video about hair growth. My sister and I were trying to find a way to grow our relaxed hair but as God would have it we stumbled upon naturals videos. Thank God for youtube and the natural beauties that diligently tell us about their hair journey in order to inspire us. You girls are the best. You are the reasons why my sister and I decided that day to good back to our roots. You made natural hair beautiful and made me realize what I was missing.

I am so glad to be on board.

All in all I am going natural to find the real me.

 Thanks for reading!

so i started my hair journey about 7 months ago. i haven't had a relaxer since then. i was tired of my hair shedding and not growing. i was tired of the damages. so i just took out my twistes that i did myself i learn of youtube. i know at the beginnin that you have to try products to see what is best for  you, so right now i am using "Mix Chicks", " Organic Olive Oil" moisturizer, and essentials like jojoba, sweet almond, and grape seed oil.i am also taking "womens one a days vitamins. i been using it about four days now. i notice with the "Mix Chicks" it  made my hair kinda hard for a second but it soften up. my hair is curly but it isn't deep like i thought it was so i been doing wet and going and twist out.  i am trying to let my hair rest and not put heat on it for awhile. i am taking pics of progress and hoping while doing this i will see progress and keep going. i probably try new products to see what works but i am going to finish this product to see how it goes. so i will keep report on how it goes.

Good Evening Natural Beauties,

Does anyone have any ideas for protective styles. I really do not want to wear any wigs. All comments are welcomed.

Im so happy to be apart of this competition. Unfortunately, I haven't received my basket yet. So now im waiting and anticipating. I can't wait to get this started.

Good Morning Naturals,

I have been natural since April 2009 and since my Big Chop I have been using the Jamaican Mango & Lime products. I have had the same regimen and I use the following products:

Weekly Shampoo: Jamaican Mango & Lime Tingle Shampoo

Conditioner: Jamaican Mango & Lime Protein Conditioner

Twist/Twist Out: Jamaican Mango & Lime Resistant Formula Locking Gel

I have been wearing twist out afro puffs and I use the locking gel daily at night when I retwist before before bedtime.  I really love this product because it defines my curl pattern and leaves my have very soft.  I will continue to do reviews on this product as I add new Jamaican Mango & Lime Products to my regimen.

After wearing locs for 8+ years I decided to shave my head.  The response that I receive from most women is " I WISH I HAD THE RIGHT HEAD TO DO THAT"  Is it really about the head or the confidence!

Hey Kinky Ladies.

I am currenlty on the hunt for new styles for free form hair. I currently wear a twist out mostly everyday. I get my hair styled sometime with a blow out, mohawk or flexi rods. I need something new and fresh.

Any ideas? Any pictures would be great!

 Thanks!
