Kinks and all

My crown is my glory.

Thick locs tell a story.

From the roots to the tip you can get to know me.

I've learned the beauty of these napps

And through my care I found myself perhaps.

Just say NO

I was always insecure about my hair and got made fun of in school because of the "beedie bees" on the side of my head.  I did really know how to comb or style my hair correctly.  When I got old enough I was able to get a relaxer and was soooooooo happy!!  My hair was long and thick and I thought I was too cool for school lol  I liked doing different things with my hair, such as wearing braids, weaves, shirley temple curls etc.  But I would NEVER dare wear it natural...so I thought:)

Its crazy how a persons hair can tell you alot about a person.  Most of my life I tried fitting in and being something that I am not.  When I was close to graduating college I went through a sudden change and wanted to find myself...that was when the surprising desire to go natural came about!  I had it styled in bantu knots and loved it!

I notice that in the beginning stages I got strange looks from people.  But suddenly I was confident in myself that I didnt care what anyone thought anymore.  Being natural has taught me to be myself.  I got tired of frontin and looking like everyone else.  I just wanted to be me!  I am the girl that would wear flip flops and tank tops with holes in my jeans-  No makeup and a big smile on my face.  It feels good to not worry about my hair getting wet in the rain, or spending tons of money every 6 weeks to straighten my new growth, ugh...

It feels good to show the world the REAL me:)  Kinks and all...

You express the freedom so many of us feel when we go natural. Great that you put it in your essay. Nice work :-)

Your photograph is playful. And you have a 100 watt smile. Your story is honest and you have a very youthful voice which I very much appreciate. But I believe that you should have applied a little make up to enhance your beauty. When you are taking pictures it is just an integral part, just like lighting. If you are unaware as to how to apply it, please seek out a local make up artist who is good with the brush. Trust me, it will add polish to your photos. All in all it is a great first effort!:-)

It is nice to wear makeup sometimes, but there is nothing like the NATURAL beauty to show your TRUE self...

I also liked how you showed your personality in your words. Your photos were hit and miss. The three with the white background were outstanding! They focused on your beautiful hair and the accessory. I found your wig picture to be uninspiring because it’s been done before and because of that I didn’t feel like I saw “you”. The bedroom shot, had a great concept and could have been cleaner (the camera angle and background). Great way to start off the competition! Good luck!:-)
