My name is Christina Ghansiwiyie Dzenyuy and a good friend of mine, Sakeenah Kinard, recommended that I participate in the Miss Nappurality Competition this year. I am a 26...well my birthday is tomorrow so...by the time you read this, I will be a 27 year old vocalist currently residing in Hartford, CT and "I am Miss Nappturality!"
I am celebrating 10 years of locing and maintaining my natural hair. Although, I would not call myself a hairdresser, a lot of folks always ask me to maintain their locs. So much so that, I have had a pretty successful side gig repairing and maintaining peoples locs for some time now.
Curly, waved, straight, bantu knotted, braided, a dash of color...you name it, I have perfected it using my locs and I still love having and growing them.

Salutations!
I just completed Challenge #1 for the Miss NP '09 contest and I wanted to quickly jot down my thoughts about the challenge. Firstly, I will say that I did some heavy brainstorming throughout the week so that I could go to the shoot well-prepared. I carry a very strong bohemian chic look when it comes to shoots and this was no different. My wardrobe had to match this feel with loose materials that were light and could drape, but also have a glam factor, which is why I selected turquoise and silver coins. Make-up comes quite natural for me as a vocalist since I do perform quite a bit and as long as I had color to match the hair clips I received, I was motivated to really have my look pop. The next thing I considered was pose. How would I tilt my head to always give the viewer an opportunity to see the hair clips. What angle? What lighting? What feel? Was I envisioning that I was Cleopatra? Perhaps I thought...hmmm...1920's flapper.
Overal...
